UK campaigners for addressing obesity have long been arguing for a sugar tax and they thought they had victory in the sugar tax scheduled for April 2018 implementation.
A recent government report brings into question whether the post-Brexit government will follow through with the new sugar tax. See http://goo.gl/zbo4RY.
If true, it is a short-sighted step. Sugar is a preservative and it tastes good. Manufacturers will use it as much as possible - to the detriment of consumers - until the government intervenes.
